Jason Powers is an employee benefits consultant with nearly three decades of experience in the health insurance industry. He is a co-founder and managing partner of Legacy Brokers, where his primary focus is helping brokers elevate their advisory capabilities through smarter funding strategies, disciplined cost containment, and the practical execution of self-funded health plans.
Jason is widely recognized for his expertise in self-funded and partially self-funded plan design, as well as his ability to coach brokers through the nuances that separate theory from results. His work supports advisors serving a wide range of clients—including private employers, public entities, schools, churches, and tribal organizations—by equipping them with the strategies, tools, and confidence needed to steward health plan dollars responsibly while protecting access to care.
Often referred to as the “Self-Funded Sensei,” Jason brings a teacher’s mindset to complex problems, helping brokers simplify plan mechanics, navigate risk, and implement sustainable solutions that hold up over time.
Before co-founding Legacy Brokers, Jason built a successful book of business as a personal producer. That hands-on experience continues to shape his approach today, blending real-world execution with agency leadership and a board-level perspective grounded in fiduciary responsibility, long-term planning, and organizational sustainability.
Jason lives in De Soto, Kansas, with his wife and four sons. He remains actively engaged in his community and values leadership rooted in clarity, service, and people-first decision making.
